Paris: Haute Couture Exhibition

Lanvin, Balenciaga, Givenchy at Musée Galliera

A great reason to visit Paris in the next couple of months is the Haute Couture exhibition presented at the Paris Hôtel de Ville. Showcasing the development of high end fashion from its inception until today, clothing, sketches, photos, and fabric samples from the Musée Galliera were carefully selected for the exhibition to tell the story of the industry. High end, made to order fashion, named Haute Couture, planted its first seeds in Paris in 1858 when Charles Frederick Worth opened a dressmaking establishment at Rue de la Paix no. 7 and paved the way for other young designers to do the same. Generation after generation of fashion creators transformed the elite fashion field into one of the most important industries in France and most identified with Paris. Legendary pieces from Lanvin, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Madame Grès, Azzedine Alaïa and many more, such as Chanel’s little black dress or Christian Dior’s ”New Look” are showcased. The exhibition runs thorugh June 7th coinciding with Haute Couture fashion week in Paris

Kim Novak to serve as guest honor at Cannes film festival

A restored version of the celebrated Alfred Hitchcock film Vertigo is part of the Cannes Film Festival this year and Kim Novak, who was one of Hitchcock’s blond muses, is to serve as guest of honor at the festival.

Novak’s portrayal of both Madeleine, a wealthy shipping heiress, and Judy, a shop assistant from Kansas in the 1958 thriller has been an inspiration for some of Bochic’s distinctive pieces. Her dual character, one polished and sophisticated, the other brassy and bold, is acted with complete confidence and style, captivating the audience throughout until the surprising end.

A femme-fatale both dangerous and desirable, her elegant style has the sheen of luxury. Through the film she appears in a series of high-end ensembles, from a silk evening gown to a fur scarf, to her iconic grey pencil skirt suit. Madeleine’s style has a glamorous simplicity – ladylike yet bold, qualities found in many of Bochic’s pieces.

Roaring 20s, Jazz, Flappers and More

We have been eagerly awaiting the latest film interpretation of The Great Gatsby. Last week marked the 88th anniversary of the publication of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel and one month to go until the highly anticipated movie opens in theaters. A newfound excitement for the film has arrived with a series of new trailers.

The opulence of the Jazz Age is captured beautifully through the stunning 1920s-style costumes and accessories. Daisy Buchanan’s navel-length pearl strands, diamond head bands, and delicate drop earrings are trademarks of the era’s sparkle.
