A great reason to visit Paris in the next couple of months is the Haute Couture exhibition presented at the Paris Hôtel de Ville. Showcasing the development of high end fashion from its inception until today, clothing, sketches, photos, and fabric samples from the Musée Galliera were carefully selected for the exhibition to tell the story of the industry. High end, made to order fashion, named Haute Couture, planted its first seeds in Paris in 1858 when Charles Frederick Worth opened a dressmaking establishment at Rue de la Paix no. 7 and paved the way for other young designers to do the same. Generation after generation of fashion creators transformed the elite fashion field into one of the most important industries in France and most identified with Paris. Legendary pieces from Lanvin, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Madame Grès, Azzedine Alaïa and many more, such as Chanel’s little black dress or Christian Dior’s ”New Look” are showcased. The exhibition runs thorugh June 7th coinciding with Haute Couture fashion week in Paris

The Mediterranean resort town in the French Riviera has plenty to offer besides the heralded film festival.

The most famous street, Promenade de la Croisette, displays two sides of beauty. One side reveals the elegance of Mother Nature in narrow beaches with crystal blue water, highlighted in the distance by towering cliffs. On the other side of the street, man-made beauty comprised of breathtaking hotels, romantic restaurants and chic boutiques, make it one of our favorite vacation destinations.

Kim Novak to serve as guest honor at Cannes film festival

A restored version of the celebrated Alfred Hitchcock film Vertigo is part of the Cannes Film Festival this year and Kim Novak, who was one of Hitchcock’s blond muses, is to serve as guest of honor at the festival.

Novak’s portrayal of both Madeleine, a wealthy shipping heiress, and Judy, a shop assistant from Kansas in the 1958 thriller has been an inspiration for some of Bochic’s distinctive pieces. Her dual character, one polished and sophisticated, the other brassy and bold, is acted with complete confidence and style, captivating the audience throughout until the surprising end.

A femme-fatale both dangerous and desirable, her elegant style has the sheen of luxury. Through the film she appears in a series of high-end ensembles, from a silk evening gown to a fur scarf, to her iconic grey pencil skirt suit. Madeleine’s style has a glamorous simplicity – ladylike yet bold, qualities found in many of Bochic’s pieces.

Bochic Exclusive Collection

Bochic launches an exclusive collection of Isadora ornamental hand bracelets inspired by the free spirit of Isadora Duncon, “Mother of Modern Dance” – soft yet edgy, daring yet elegant. Her unique revolutionary style combined the sharpness and elegance of ballet, flow and romance of ballroom dancing and freedom and extremity of burlesque. Much like her dancing, her forward-thinking personality was an inspiration around the world. The Roaring Twenties were one of the most fascinating decades in American literature and art. At the time, many American artists, including Isadora Duncan, made their way to Paris for inspiration and to work among influential peers of their generation such as Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, who penned the masterpiece novel The Great Gatsby. This post-war expatriate generation, known as the “Lost Generation” is visible in Isadora’s style which reflects the Bohemian “cafe society” lifestyle on Paris’ Left Bank.

Bochic’s Isadora Collection is Designer David Joseph’s modern take on the type of jewelry popularized by dancers, artists and flappers in the 1920s. Crafted in white and yellow gold, these bracelet and ring combinations are connected with delicate gold chains and each features a unique diamond or sapphire cluster.

Roaring 20s, Jazz, Flappers and More

We have been eagerly awaiting the latest film interpretation of The Great Gatsby. Last week marked the 88th anniversary of the publication of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel and one month to go until the highly anticipated movie opens in theaters. A newfound excitement for the film has arrived with a series of new trailers.

The opulence of the Jazz Age is captured beautifully through the stunning 1920s-style costumes and accessories. Daisy Buchanan’s navel-length pearl strands, diamond head bands, and delicate drop earrings are trademarks of the era’s sparkle.

With its flapper fashions and extravagant parties, the story set in New York is brought to us by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, who created his own distinctive visual interpretation of the classic story. Bringing the period to life in what seems to be an absolute feast for the eyes, the new production pushes the bar even higher from the unforgettable production of 1974.

The fashion world has also been anticipating the film’s release. The glamorous architectural style of the roaring 20s is already visible in this year’s fashion trends and we adore this combination between minimalism and indulgence. For a deeper insight of the flapper’s look and spirit look at our “Great Gatsby Style” Pinterest board:

Hayworth is really the original glamour girl. Elbow-length gloves, strapless glittering gowns split to the thigh, and trademark red wavy locks are just a few of her iconic style trademarks which really hypnotized a generation. Jean Louis, ’Columbia Pictures’ costumier, designed the satin bustier dress worn by Hayworth for her title role in the movie Gilda. He is credited for contributing to the creation of the glamorous sparkle of Hollywood’s golden age for which Hayworth was his muse. Without a doubt, Rita was one of the most glamorous actresses in Hollywood history, but she was much more than just a beautiful face. She was such a talented actress and dancer that she is listed by the American Film Institute as one of the 100 Greatest Stars of All Time.
